It's important to protect children and the community from dangerous dogs. But breed-specific legislation is wrong - for many reasons:
- BSL provides a false sense of security
- Banning breeds does not prevent dog bites
- Breed bans do not address irresponsible ownership
- Breed discrimination punishes good dogs for heing the "wrong breed"
- Breed discrimination may force good owners to surrender or even euthanize their beloved pets
- Breed bans increase surrenders at shelters
- Breed bans increase euthanasia rates of healthy, adoptable dogs

Yesterday, the police were investigating my neighbor's house alarm which had gone off.My beautiful, sweet pit bull had gotten out of the yard, but was laying in our yard next to our car. We were not at home. The police came into our driveway through our neighbor's yard. My dog stood up, and looked at the police and they shoot him and killed him.The police killed my wonderful, ten year old artheritic, friend. The police said my dog was vicious, they also said they shot him because he was a pit bull. My neighbor across the street from us saw the incident and said the the dog simply stood up and turned around, then the polceman shot him and killed him. We are devastated. We have had that dog since he was 6 months old. He was part of our family....Take special care of pit bull pets because they get a bad rap.
